Entry #9: Beyond The Processing Portion

Today I wanted to take a look at this meme because as someone who has worked fast food or any job in the food industry, this is true. We can spend all the time talking about the bad things that get put into our food through processing plants and what they fed the animals in order to give us food fast and cheap but beyond that, another thing to worry about is sanitation. Whether it is through the work environment itself or through employees who refuse to follow health guidelines out of pure laziness. Im sure we all have seen, heard, or witnessed a restaurant horror story due to the hygiene at the place.

This was already an important issue at hand but due to the recent outbreak of covid, this needs to be taken even more into consideration because you'd be surprised how many people don't listen then the germs they spread can ultimately lead to a consumer getting sick. A lot more needs to be done besides having posters reminding people of their hygiene somewhere in the bathroom, maybe even monthly meetings on making sure this is a prominent thing to stay on top of. Lets even take a step back from restaurants and look at the food processing plants or feed mills for the animals, time and time you'll see the horrible conditions animals get placed in that is just begging for them to become contaminated or anything that will transfer out into the food that is made from them. All it takes is one little germ or bacteria to create a swarm and infestation that fully contaminates the product.

To sum it up, hygiene is a big issue in the food industry as well and not just for the humans but for the animals as well, the problem is only going to keep growing and growing if we don't try to tackle it head on more and more. Im curious to know of the food service horror stories any of you might have to share and do you think that hygiene in the food industry is as big a problem or if its just a minor issue taken to be over exaggerated?
